Things of Note | Part 2
I will be wearing the hat below in August so things of note has come early and its a special edition just for subscribers.
Hello All, I’m planning to pause subscriptions next month as the juggle between work and my son will be pretty full on. As there will be no “Things of Note” In August I thought I would do a special 2nd edition in July just for my subscribers all of whom I am incredibly grateful for! Thank you.
I’m excited for a return to schedule in September , with a Rug Edition of Best In Show and a deep dive into my current favourite interior designers.
Without further a do, here’s a collection of stuff that has caught my eye since I last found note worthy things.
INTERIORS NOW
Loved discovering the work of Studio Manifold this month. Particularly Gruyere Farm designed in collaboration with Simone Haag. featured in Architectural Digest.

Of Note
I have had my bathroom basin/vanity in front of a window for the last 6 years and it kind of drives me nuts. I’m desperate to have a mirror above our sink. I like to see my teeth when I’m brushing, and my face when I’m washing it. We are renovating/'will eventually renovate’ and I’ve been playing with the layout to alter this bug bear, however, I am also noticing an interesting work around with your mirrors in front of your windows. It looks so fantastic above … although Domino have just done a piece on this ‘trend’ so I am wary Instagram might chew and spit this out pretty quick and then we are all just stuck not being able to look out of our windows…FYI studio manifold cleverly added hinges to theirs.
Of Note
If you like the floor lamp above, its Lana Launey. I loved discovering her work a while ago so its great to see it in such a beautiful space. There’s a fantastic handcrafted element to all the pieces chosen in this home. Personally, I don’t lean very bohemian , which is often where craft can cross over into, however, in this digital/AI age I feel the hand is going to become more and more important in our homes. I’ll just never be a stringy fringey macrame type of person but I’m really interested in the use of organic fabrics, textures and natural materials in more contemporary designs ( which I think Lana nails, as does the Santiago Roqueta table lamp in the bedroom below)
Of Note
light blue grout with black mosaic tile radiator shelf appreciation.
Of Note
The Básica Mínima table light - Santiago Roqueta | Santa & Cole £372.30 above works in a lovely contrast with the USM side table.
More work from Manifold

FOLLOW
I really enjoy the posts from studio_lampedo who deal in Expressionist Furniture, Restoration & Curation. What they sell is on the fantasy shopping list rather than the reality shopping list but as I want to lean into making more of my own furniture designs in the future it provides some really excellent inspiration. For example this cabinet below for sale on 1st dibs ,
I love the curved leaded details of the glass fronts, the artwork integrated into the middle section, the unusual shaped legs …and I inevitably ended up down a Carlo Enrico Rava shaped rabbit hole ( of which I share more below)
Back to studio_lampedo

The furniture and imagery they share feels very Meta Colman ( see her amazing bathroom vanity in her Utah home below ( the whole house is a treasure trove - recently featured in House & Gardens)
It’s interesting that Meta has German heritage and that you are able to see this influence come through in her spaces. Although our aesthetics diverge, i’m obsessed with her boldness and attention to detail. I don’t think anyone quite does maximalism like Meta. Also, as already mentioned her Dora Maar shelf is high on my wishlist.
Back to heritage , when it comes to finding an aesthetic that feels personal to you, leaning on your own personal heritage seems like a good place to start. Its something that designer Beata Heuman equally taps into. Many of us immediately jump to minimalism and ikea when thinking about Scandinavian design but Beata’s visual world opens up a new perspective … it’s more of a colourful Tove Johansson take than pale woods and grey sofas, although she does love white walls and mixing in a little Ikea into her high-end designs.
If you like the Studio Lempedo account, founder Markus Winter wrote a book for Rizzoli called Berlin Deko: Central European Furniture from 1910 to 1930. Its niche but if you are here, I’m hoping its because you think niche is nice.
INTERIORS NOW
Whilst on the subject of Beata , I did enjoy discovering the house of one of her former designers, Phoebe Hollond . I especially liked her daughters bedroom below , proving that a child’s room needn’t be childish.
Photographs Mark Roper
I really love Pheobe’s attention to detail and interesting juxtapositions. I also like how you can see Beata’s influence but that Pheobe has found her own design language too.

OBJECT THEN
Carlo Enrico Rava
A selection of Carlo Enrico Rava’s personality filled furniture below ( as promised above) . In my sleuthing I discovered that he must have been friends with Carlo Mollino. I’m not surprised as there is a similar feel to their designs. The below book on Rava’s furniture has a preface by Mollino. Its on Ebay for £167.00. If you are after some rare design books, Desthetica Books is a great resource.

I also found this catalogue on Desthetica Books
… and I need this sofa situation in my life.
SHOP
I’m afraid all the furniture here is price on request which makes me think it's more of a fantasy shopping situation (again, sorry!) but I discovered so many new designers ( Taichiro Nakai, Gianni Vigorelli , Giovanni Corradini & Oscar Torlasco, to name but a few). So, I had to share.
ART NOW
I’m really enjoying how Rhett has been showing the pieces he sells in his white walled gallery in his own home recently. After all it’s where most of us will be putting our art ( not in his home obvs). I think its why I like 8 holland street so much too, as the artwork often sits alongside domestic objects. Its also why visiting places like Kettles Yard feels like a richer experience. Rhett’s world is different from 8 Holland street but the premise in these vignettes is the same, Art in a domestic context and design and art held up together. Rhett also owns an excellent sofa and may be convincing a lot of people to paint their bedroom bubble gum pink.

If I was ever to get married I would become a very demanding bride and request a trip to L.A just to try on dresses I couldn’t afford in the pistachio and yellow rooms below.
