NOVEMBER - Things of visual note ...
After an almost 3 year hiatus from the world of newsletters I've finally decided to get back on the wagon but i've switched over to the Substack world ... apart from that not much else will change.
To kick things off, below are a few things lately that brought me some visual pleasure. If i’m honest I have found it increasingly hard to feel that dash of ‘oh la la’ from all things design and interiors. However much I scroll these days my mojo is pretty low. I’m hoping that starting this newsletter again will light up that much needed aesthetic joy, not just for me but for you all too.
So with out further a do …
INTERIORS

As I mentioned , not much has been stopping me in my tracks but the home of Fashion executive Felipe Oliveira Baptista and his wife Séverine in Sacré-Coeur certainly did. Photographs by @ricardolabougle and @matthieusalvaing
Side Notes
Love the combination of light blue and wood. Light blue and Caramel/Tan just seems to be a winning marriage. Emily Bode and Aaron Aujla’s home is another great example of this beautiful colour combination.
Yes please, to the Pileino Mezzo standing Lamp by Gae Aulenti. Kooloomodern is a good place to look for something similar.
The combination of art and framing is chefs kiss in the first image. For something similar on the frame front, you could combine acrylic frames from acrylidex.com and a chunky wood frame like this eframe . For something bespoke if you are based in the UK, I’m always admiring Hawkins Framing, Facility & Framelondon
I dream of a Terrazza Landscape Elements sofa by Ubald Klug for De Sede. Alas its 28k so if you want to drop that on a sofa …be my guest here
BOOKS
If you are into the above Parisian home, this book might also float your boat.
Inside Paris by Ricardo Labougle
Other books that have caught my eye this month …

MORE INTERIORS

Harris Vintage has been helping with the interior fatigue by sharing gems like this. This 5 bedroom house is currently for sale in Athens via @athens___mon_amour . Its refreshing to see amongst the manicured spaces online something with tons of human character. It gives me the same feeling I get when passing an old laundrette or hairdressers with faded 1980’s images in the window.. more of that nostalgic greasy spoon feeling in my life please.
DESIGNER/ARTIST
Yes you have probably already seen this image ( perhaps multiple times) but in the hope of giving the artist and image a little more longevity than a fleeting flurry of re grams ( potentially without credit) I wanted to include Sarah’s work as it did take my breath away. It was just so nice to be visually surprised and uplifted.
The SHIRT-CURTAIN (Rideau-Chemise) is an idea Sarah sketched out five years ago, but has only just been brought it to life through her exhibition, A WELL-DRESSED APARTMENT at @34ruelouiseemilie
It is currently a one-of-a-kind piece made exclusively from vintage fabric, but Sarah plans to develop the idea further in 2025 with her atelier to make it available for pre-order as a custom-made item, with various pattern options … immediately adding to wish/wait list.

ARCHITECTURE
Whenever I am feeling low about design a guaranteed spirit lifter is okolo_architecture

This completely preserved 1950s apartment in Milan, commissioned by electric-motor producer Rocco d’Amore and his wife, Maria Petrera hits all the right notes. The designers of the space were little known furniture designer Eugenia Alberti Reggio (student of Gio Ponti) and her husband, the architect Gian Luigi Reggio. The apartment still features their amazing bespoke furniture pieces and built-ins. See and read more about the interiors over on worldofinteriors.com

Also these chairs from okolo_architecture brightened my day!
If you love these too you might like these guys, with a similar signature,
Benches by Carlo De Carli for Fiamm, Italy, 1960s
Carlo De Carli also made this amazing swivel coat rack, available for the princely sum of £4,368.02 on First Dibs ( not sure what the 2p is about)
As Adam from Okolo mentions the original chairs I posted above (before getting side tracked by Carlo) are very similar in style to those of Max Clendinning as seen below , recently sold at auction for a less affordable £2,800 from Sworders
I shared Max Clendinning’s home in my October newsletter from 2021, here’s a link incase you missed it www.independent.co.uk
READ, WATCH & LISTEN
I Enjoyed reading this post called ‘Room Recipe’ from the À La Carte substack by creative director Ali LaBelle. In this particular post Ali dissects Lucy William’s Scandinavian-inspired dining area. It was also lovely to see my own work recommended in the category of graphic and abstract art.
If anyone has any recommendations of interior You Tubes I would love to know them. My personal favourite at the moment is Paige Wassel, her Tick Tock interiors video was fun, and my life was improved knowing some people in the world are “fridge-scaping”.
I enjoyed listening to Neneh Cherry talk about creativity and laziness on The How To Fail podcast.
I thought a perfect way to end this letter would be with an image of Neneh Cherry in her childhood home alongside her mother, artist , Moki Karlsson Cherry. Now I have a son of a similar age to Neneh in this photo , I feel the need to up my mural game.
Hopefully see you all again in December if you stick around ..and I stick to it!
