Best In Show - Beds

With Valentines approaching I thought it would be nice to go with a slightly romantic theme for this month's 'Best In Show'

Best In Show - Beds

Here are a selection of interesting beds, spurred on by Paloma Elsesser's AD tour ( a must watch) and her magnificent Gabriella Crespi bed , as well as this AMAZING bed.

Now, this was not the easiest list to make. Many vintage shops don’t have beds as a category and new ones that are interesting design wise are few and far between. It’s also tricky to find anything affordable with much character .

Perhaps a simple platform bed like this, or this storage option and a homemade headboard could be a good solution when on a tight budget. The amount of times I’ve DIY’d a headboard in my mind but never actually taken the leap is ridiculous. But, if you fancy a productive weekend this place does foam cut to any size and apparently a staple gun can feel pretty therapeutic. I recently found this Etsy shop that has some lovely vintage fabrics . And there are lots of upholstery how to’s on this account.

There is of course the option to get some interesting legs to swop out on something more standard ( it is all about spending on the mattress after all) . This place has a nice selection of bun feet and chrome legs . I think a valance can be great too if you can’t afford a new frame and hate your bed legs.

All this aside here are some of my favourite finds both new and vintage …

Above left is The walker bed by amberinteriordesign . You can choose from dark and light oak and the upholstered head board is customisable so lots of options to suit your room.

N.B It is a copy of a Jean Royere design (above right) but unless you have £98,500 to spend on your shut eye this does provide an alternative for your Royere shaped hole for $5,200.

If , like me you find dupes troublesome despite the real thing forever being out of your price range, the bed below provides a nice alternative with a similar flavour.

I would take so many more pieces of furniture by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for my own home. These nightstands in walnut that look like a precursor to Anna Castelli Ferrieri’s Kartell storage are particularly lovely) . The bed is £1,713 which compared to his other items seems pretty reasonable.
