INTERIOR & ARCHITECTURE
Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo?
The work of Andre Bloc is something I seem to rediscover every now and again, each time just as delightful as the last. At the start of lockdown I shared his own house designed by Claude Parent on Instagram when I asked several of my favourite accounts their 'top 5 places they would happily self isolate'. Bloc's house in Meudon was Beton Radieux 's choice, and if I'm correct his living sculpture below is built in the grounds of his home ( more research to do there). Last week I found a fantastic clip of the film 'Qui etes-vous, Polly Maggoo?' featuring sculpture-habitacle 2.

INTERIOR & ARCHITECTURE
les cabanettes
This hotel is close to where my family live in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. A fantastic time capsule from 1963 designed by the architect Armand Pellier. In 2019 the hotel was taken over by new owners but thankfully the charm is kept in tact, definitely one to pop into for an apéro and a stop over when I finally make it back to France.

I discovered Les Cabanettes via the instagram account of magazine "where is the cool?" I recommend a follow if you like this newsletter, we seem to share a mutual interest in discovering unusual things of visual interest such as an amazing duplex apartment built in 1970 by Daniel Grataloup and recently inside Salvador Dali's house in Portlligat

ARTIST / DESIGNER
Renaat Ramon
I'm afraid I know little about Renaat Ramon but his sculptures made me smile and discovering you can get your hands on one without breaking the bank was pretty pleasing too.

Garden Furniture
Summer will soon be over but my quest to find the perfect vintage garden furniture shows no signs of abatting. Here are a few pieces I saved, mostly for champagne budgets rather than beer ones but lovely none the less.

BOOK Q&A
Modern Architecture and Interiors by Adam Štěch
Adam Štěch of @okoloweb has been a favourite Instagram account to follow for a long time so I'm delighted that his new book 'Modern Architecture and Interiors' is out for all to purchase tomo. I took the opportunity to celebrate this occasion by asking Adam a few quick questions. I'll let you do your own research on the array of architects he mentions below - his answers offer a small taste of the wealth of information his new book contains. I for one can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

What was the most surprising story/discovery you made when researching the book?
Almost all discoveries are great stories. One of the first one's was a visit to the Ico Parisi house in Como in 2011. When I visited it I met his niece who was living there and then I proposed the story to Wallpaper magazine and it was my first article for them, which was always my dream. Also Kameki and Nobuko Tsuchiura house in Tokyo was amazing. We met a lady who worked for Tsuchiura previously, she inherited the house after Tsuchiura's death. She was around 90 years old and did not speak any English but still we understood each other somehow and she showed us around the house.
Which lesser known architect in the book do you think should be more widely celebrated and why?
Many of them. The whole book is actually based on lesser known architects. My favourite and very little known are Newton Laconich, Januario Godinho, Pierre Debeaux, Bruno Elkouken, artist Riccardo Chicco, Hugh Casson, Jorge Caprario, Cassiano Branco, Carlo Alberto Bordogna, Hans Broos, Angelo Masieri, Rodolfo Lopez Rey, and many others...
Riccardo Chicco
Do you have a favourite piece of furniture from one of the interiors featured?
Furniture from Sybold Van Ravesteyn house, Hans Aspund Eslov Civic center, Jacques Dupuis' furniture from Maison Bedoret, furniture from Villa De Ooievaar by Jozef De Bruycker, the bench in Palacio Municipal by Mauricio Cravotto in Montevideo, chairs from Solana del Mar by Antonio Bonet in Punta Ballena.

What are your thoughts on decoration within the modern movement?
I think there are many projects with distinctive decoration within the modern movement. I like it, I like details... I think we should revisit our perspective on the modern movement, because there were architects using decoration and somehow anticipated postmodernism decades before postmodern was even formulated ... lots of Art Deco is featured in the book.
